Charlotte Barr Obituary, 82

A graveside service for Charlotte (Howard) Barr, 82, who died on Jan. 28, will be held in the Highland Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 10. A reception at the Thompson Senior Center will follow.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock.


There will be a graveside service and burial in the Highland Cemetery in Woodstock in May to be announced by the family for Charlotte A. (Howard) Barr, 82, who passed away Jan. 28 in Melbourne, Fla., surrounded by her family.
Charlotte was born in Hanover, N.H. at the old Mary Hitchcock Hospital on Sept. 26, 1931. She lived in Palm Bay, Fla. since 1992 and returned to where she grew up in her beloved village of West Woodstock in 2003.
She was the daughter of F. Clifton Howard and Mildred Cowdrey of South Woodstock.
Charlotte worked at the Norwalk Hour Newspaper (CT) in a middle management position returning in 1992. Besides being a homemaker and antique dealer for most of her life, she also took time to raise Morgan horses and was a competitive 100-mile trail rider in Woodstock, VT, New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Maine and Florida in her younger years.
Charlotte was a member of the National Society DAR over 40 years chapters “Abigail Wright Chamberlain”, Melbourne, Fla., and Colonel Israel Converse, Randolph. She has two ancestral Revolutionary War Patriots; one buried in Bunker Hill Cemetery, Pomfret and another in Wilder. She also has two decedents on the Howard/Cowdrey family side traceable to the Mayflower.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Glenn; one brother, Frances Howard; two sons; Bruce and James; four daughters; Catherine, Glenna, Leslie and Jennifer; 15 grand children; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock.
