ORO VALLEY, Ariz.— There will be no funeral services for Gordon E. Rockwood, 83, who died at home on Jan. 23. Burial will be in the Vermont Veterans Cemetery in May.
He was born in Hartland on July 28, 1930, the son of Floyd and Julie (Bowers) Rockwood.
He attended one-room elementary schools in Hartland and graduated from Windsor High School in 1948.
Following service with the U.S. Air Force in Greenland 1948-52, he lived in Hartland and worked with builders Rockwood and Young Inc. until starting work with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at North Hartland Dam. He later moved to Corps of Engineers positions in Arizona and California before retiring because of a work related disability and lived in Arizona in Prescott, Chino Valley, Tucson, Show Low and Oro Valley. In retirement neighbors and friends knew him as “the guy who could build or fix anything.”
He is survived by his wife Barbara Russell Rockwood; son Jeff in Tucson, Ariz.; daughter, Cindy Markus with four children; and nine grandchildren in northern California; an older brother Walter Rockwood in Chelsea, whose four children provide nine nieces and nephews.
A sister Greta Somerville of Norwich predeceased him in 1984.
