QUECHEE GORGE – Members of the Hartford Police Department spent Sunday going up and down the length of the Quechee Gorge looking for any signs that a missing Sunapee, New Hampshire man might have harmed himself.
“We were out there all day but nothing was found,” Hartford Police Sgt. Connie Kelley reported, adding, “Today we’re just following up on information that has come in but there is nothing new to report.”
Michael Hayward Jr., 42, had been reported missing by New Hampshire authorities and on Saturday his vehicle was located at a parking area at the Quechee Gorge.
Police searched the vehicle but did not find anything suspicious nor any signs of foul play.
Sgt. Kelley said that the search at the Gorge has been indefinitely suspended and authorities are now basically just waiting for the weather to change to see if anything surfaces at the Hartland Dam.
“All of that down there is frozen,” right now, Sgt. Kelley said, noting, “The pool down below the Gorge is frozen and that creates part of the problem.”Michael J. Hayward Jr. (Photo Courtesy of Hartford Parks and Recreation Department.
