About 22 people gathered Monday on the Woodstock Green to hold a vigil and protest the proposed Keystone XL pipeline expansion.

The group lit candles and sang songs from the protest that was held in Washington, D.C. recently. Protest attendee Anne Macksoud of Woodstock said the point of the protest was to encourage action against the destruction of the planet through the burning of fossil fuels.

“We need to leave the oil and gas in the ground,” Macksoud said.
