The Boston Bruins Alumni Hockey Team returns on Saturday, March 1 at 4 p.m. to Union Arena to play in the Gateway Ford Boston Bruins Alumni Benefit Game. It is the 10th year in a row the Bruins Hockey Club has visited Woodstock. The past two years have seen standing room only crowds ringing the Arena ice, and lots of fun and exciting hockey played by some of the greatest players from the last few decades of the National Hockey League.

The Alumni Team is also bringing their own refs this year, including an entertaining “clown ref” who was originally trained in the Ringling Circus. It is also the third year of a great partnership between Union Arena and Gateway Motors in White River Junction. Allen and Charlie Hall have become good friends of the Arena and their involvement has allowed this event to grow and become not only a lot more fun for the fans, but also help to make it a more successful event for Union Arena.

The Arena receives zero dollars in financial support from the High School or the Town, and it is events like the Gateway Ford Boston Bruins Alumni Game that allow the Arena to be successful. Many other businesses in the Woodstock and Upper Valley community also join the effort to support this particular community event, ranging from buying ads in the game program (printed by the Bruins), donating items for the gift bags each member of the Bruins Alumni team receives (help still needed on this, and also a great way to promote Woodstock and products to these players and the fans), donating larger items to the Silent Auction and others offer many hours of volunteer time before and during this event.

The Gateway Ford Bruins Alumni Game is only a part of a busy and unique weekend. For five years Union Arena has been bringing in Squirt age teams (age 9-10) for a hockey tournament that surrounds the Bruins game. Union Arena is thrilled to announce a new partnership with TD Bank, who is sponsoring the TD Bank Bear Squirt Invitational. This year fourteen teams from southern Connecticut to northern Vermont will be in town, bringing in over 700 visitors to Woodstock for the weekend.

The Gateway Ford Boston Bruins Alumni Game will again feature many notable NHLers including Black and Gold greats from the Stanley Cup winning teams of the 1970s and through the decades including Rick Middleton, Rick Smith, Bob Miller, Frank Simonetti, Reggie Lemelin, Dave Shaw and many more.

Tickets are on sale now at Union Arena, and fans can call the Arena or stop by anytime. This game is always a sellout, so get your tickets today!
