WEATHERSFIELD — A funeral service for Clarence N. “Sonny” Grover, 79, who died March 22, at Genesis Eldercare Lebanon (N.H.) Center will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 28, at the Davis Memorial Chapel, 99 Summer St. in Springfield, where a calling hour will begin at 10 a.m. prior to the service officiated by the Rev. Walter McDaniel of Bow Baptist Church. Burial will be held at a later date in Pine Grove Cemetery, North Springfield.
He was born Aug. 28, 1934, in North Springfield, son of Mary (Snell) and Clarence N. Grover Sr.
He attended school in Springfield before serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict.
Mr. Grover married Dorothy Lindgren Aug. 23, 1952, in Springfield.
He was employed for 31 years in the heat treatment division at Jones and Lamson, for several years at Mack Molding Co. in Cavendish, and finally, for Springfield School District.
He served Weathersfield as chief of the volunteer fire department and as fire warden.
Mr. Grover enjoyed taking care of his property.
Survivors include his wife of Weathersfield; three children, Richard Grover of Memphis, Tenn., Matthew Grover of Bentonville, Ark., and Mary Hankins of Sumter, S.C.; four grandsons; three sisters, Esther Ballou of Vineland, N.J., Rachel Brown of White River Junction and Althea Bender of Denver, Colo.; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by five sisters, Ramona Komulainen, Helen Varney, Mary Austin, Florence Sain and Evelyn Stonestreet.
