Two people were shot in the leg at their home in Killington after an altercation Sunday morning.

Justin Bitar, 28, shot a handgun twice, once hitting Matt Dunn, 25, in the leg and once hitting Jessica Martome, 25, in the leg where the three live at 2841 Killington Road, according to Vermont State Police.

Police responded to the residence on Sunday at about 4:45 a.m.

Prior to the shooting, police say Dunn was physically assaulted by Bitar and Karl Albert, 44. Dunn left the residence on his own before returning and getting into another altercation with Bitar, police said.

Detective Lt. Kevin Lane said he has applied for a search warrant for the residence. Members of the Crime Scene Search Team were at the residence Sunday night. Lane isn’t releasing more information about the incident at this time.

Dunn and Martome were transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center for their gunshot wounds. The injuries were non life-threatening, police said.

Bitar is being charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault, one misdemeanor count of recklessly endangering another person and one felony count of using a firearm while committing a crime.

Albert is being charged with one misdemeanor count of simple assault, police said. He is cited to appear in court April 28.

Police say Bitar was lodged at the Marble Valley Correctional Center for lack of $25,000 bail.
