Vermont Special Olympics Winter Games

For the seventh year in a row, Woodstock will play host to the 2014 Special Olympics Winter Games this weekend.

With several hundred participants expected, the three-day competition will be held at Suicide Six Ski Resort and provide athletes with the ability to compete in four sports: alpine skiing, cross country skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing. The Woodstock Inn and Resort will serve as the official home base for the athletes.

Gov. Peter Shumlin is expected to be in attendance on Friday to officially open the Games at 7 p.m. on the Woodstock Town Green. Prior to that, participants and their families are urged to attend the Governor’s Reception from 5-7 p.m. at the Inn where, in addition to hors d’oeuvres and drinks, there will be an auction that includes vacation packages and Vermont getaways and a chance to meet Gov. Shumlin.
