BARNARD — The sun is shining, but Barnard Academy is closed.

School was out Friday due to a broken well pump. The water stopped working in the building Thursday around 4 p.m, according to Principal Anne Koop.

A plumber and a former custodian at the school determined the source of the problem Thursday around 8 p.m. and Koop — along with Windsor Central Supervisory Union Superintendent Alice Worth — decided to close school Friday.

Koop expects the well pump will be fixed Friday and school will be open again on Monday.

“I was just thankful that we got through a whole day of school,” Koop said.
