Hartland Swimmer Hannah Cox ended the winter season with a burst of speed capturing first place in six out of her seven events at the Speedo Ithaca Sectionals in New York in March.

This 16-year-old Kimbell Union Academy (KUA) student just keeps on getting faster as she achieved personal best times in most of her races and set five pool records along the way.

While Cox can prove her strength in any event, she has emerged as a top freestyle and individual medley(IM) swimmer, doing well in these events from 100 to 1,000 meters.

In the 1000 freestyle distance event, Cox beat out fellow Upper Valley Aquatic swimmer Elisabeth Brechbuhl to take home the win in a personal best of 9:51:04 over Brechbuhl’s 10:13:39. Brechbuhl would prove her strength in the distance swims as well, as she later went on to win the 1,650-meter freestyle.

After this first win, Cox continued on to take first place setting more records along the way in the 200 Free (1:47:31), 400 IM (4:17:48), 100 Free (50:71) and 200 IM (2:02:08). In the latter race, she dropped four seconds from her preliminary qualifier to take the win.

On her way to these wins, Cox beat a number of 2012 Olympic Qualifiers and ended up the high point winner of the meet. She appears well on her way to meeting her goal of doing well in the 2016 Olympic Qualifiers.
