Staff Report

WINDSOR-Two dogs were found dead with gunshot wounds in their faces on Interstate 91 Saturday morning, according to the Windsor Police Department.

Two pit bulls named Dunkin and Diesel appeared to have been thrown out of a moving vehicle after being shot and killed between exit 8 and 9, police said.

The owners, who live near County Road in Windsor, told police they let the dogs outside to play around 4:30 p.m. on Friday. When the dogs didn’t return home, the family became concerned.

Police said the animals were found on a stretch of interstate behind the owner’s home.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Ryan Palmer at 295-9425.

UPDATE: 9:20 p.m. Further investigation on Sunday determined that facial wounds thought to be gunshot wounds were actually puncture wounds, police said. Both dogs are believed to have been killed instantly on the interstate.
