Alice Severance Obituary, 88

HARTFORD — A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated May 14 at St. Anthony’s Church in White River Jct. for Alice M. Severance, 88, who died May 10, at the Brookside Nursing Home in White River Jct. Burial followed in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
She was born, July 23, 1925 in Kington, England, the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth (Henn) Jeffrey.
She grew up and attended school in England.
Alice met Gordon Severance while he was serving with the U.S. Army in World War II and moved to the United States shortly after the war. They were married May 3, 1947 at Our Lady of the Snow Church in Woodstock.
After raising her seven children, Alice worked for many years as a waitress at the Tally House Restaurant in White River Jct. Alice was an active and devoted member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church where she sang in the choir and attended prayer group. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Alice enjoyed reading, cooking, canning, baking and gardening. She loved vacationing with her family in Maine at the beach. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by three sons, John Severance of Norwich, Michael Severance of Colchester, and Paul Severance of Springfield; three daughters, Mary Brower of White River Jct., Karen Severance of Wilder and Diane Nadeau of Sharon; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one sister, Sylvia Gilbert of England; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband; a son, Jeffrey Severance; three brothers, Peter, Steve and Charles Jeffrey and two sisters, Frances Bowen and Marion Ward.
