NORTH HARTLAND — The funeral service will be May 16 at 2 p.m. at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor for Anna Haurilick Wood Keir, 98, a longtime resident of North Hartland, who passed away May 11 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon. Visitation will be held from 1:30-2 p.m. Private committal services will be held at the convenience of the family in the Ascutney Cemetery in Windsor.
Her family immigrated from Russia, her mother arriving at Ellis Island on May 3, 1914. Her father had arrived in this country some time earlier. Anna was born May 1, 1916 in Windsor, daughter of Ignas and Anna (Hamolka) Haurilick.
She was raised in the tight-knit neighborhood of Acme Street and River Street during her childhood years. She was educated in the Windsor public school system, graduating from Windsor High School as a member of the Class of 1934.
She married George W. Wood on Dec. 8, 1935 and he passed away on March 21, 1989. She married Jack C. Keir on Jan. 23, 1993 and he passed away on Aug. 30, 2010.
Following her marriage to Mr. Wood she lived in Windsor, and later Tunbridge, where she was an owner of the G.W. & A.H. Wood I.G.A. Grocery Store for several years until moving to North Hartland, where she was an owner of the George Wood Insurance Agency. She resided in North Hartland and Bradenton, Florida during her retirement years with Mr. Keir.
Among her proudest moments in life was her selection as Mrs. Vermont in April of 1956, following which she was a contestant in the Mrs. America Pageant in Daytona Beach in May of 1956 with 47 other winners from throughout the United States and the District of Columbia.
Survivors include one son, Steven G. Wood and his wife, Susan of Essex Jct.; one daughter, Charalyn Wood of Hartland; two granddaughters, Rachel Mae Wood of Jericho, and Abigail Susan Wood of Burlington; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; and by two brothers, William Haurilick and John Haurilick.
