In a ceremony on the steps of the State House, Governor Peter Shumlin signed the controversial GMO bill into law Thursday.

Vermont is the first state in the country to require labeling of genetically modified foods into law. The bill requires foods sold at retail outlets to be labeled as having been produced – wholly or partially – by genetic engineering.
