READING, formerly of Sterling, Massachusetts — There will be a private celebration of life gathering at a later date for Deanna Johnson (Kurgan), 65, who passed away surrounded by loved ones on July 3 at her home in Vermont.
Deanna had many interests but none more passionate than her love of horses. While living in Massachusetts, De bought her first horse, Annie, which led to her pursuit of competitive trail riding. She was a member of New England Horse and Trail Association and was the recipient of a 2500-mile award with NEHT as well as many ribbons with Eastern Competitive Trail Association and Green Mountain Horse Association.
De had a successful tack repair business, designed and sold teddy bears and volunteered at numerous animal shelters. De obtained her associate’s degree at Quinsigamond Community College in Massachusetts and worked most of her career as a legal assistant.
Deanna is survived by her devoted husband, Ray; stepdaughter, Sharon Compise of Oklahoma, her husband, Tom, their children, Heather, Matt, Emily and great-granddaughter, Malaya; twin sister, Diane Golden of Hopkinton, Massachusetts, her husband, Joseph; a brother, Anthony Kurgan of Hudson, Massachusetts; four nephews and one niece.
