The Killington Wine Festival celebrates its thirteenth anniversary this year from July 18-20 with added events, expanded food and wine offerings, and a variety of wine dining experiences. Gaining attention each year since its inception, this three day event attracts hundreds of wine and food enthusiasts to the Green Mountains of Vermont every summer to celebrate the products of renowned winemakers and the finest regional cuisine.
Throughout the weekend, representatives from over 30 wineries and distributors pour more than 300 wines from around the world. Patrons of the Festival have the opportunity to participate in tastings in one of the widest selections of wines available in New England and sample a bounty of wine-friendly fare offered by area restaurants and artisan food companies.
The event kicks off Friday evening with the Estate Wine Tasting poolside at the Killington Grand Hotel. Select wineries will sample their collections of estate and reserve wines. Representatives will be on hand to discuss each wine; educating attendees about the nuances of the fine wines being sampled. Tickets to the Estate Tasting are limited, with only 100 tickets available. Running concurrently with the Estate Tasting, the Killington Wine Trail will showcase Killington Restaurants offering a special wine or food and wine pairing.
New to the weekend lineup, Killington Resort is hosting a four course wine brunch at the Killington Peak Lodge. An event you will not want to miss, the brunch features four courses of fresh Vermont fare, each paired with wines selected from Merriam Vineyards, served at the Killington Peak Lodge offering panoramic views of the Green, White and Adirondack Mountains and the K-1 Express Gondola to get you there. Tickets for the brunch are $60 (plus tax and service charge) and include brunch and a round trip ride to Killington Peak on the K-1 Express Gondola. Space is limited so book early.
The signature event of the Festival, the Grand Tasting, will be held on Saturday afternoon at the foot of Killington Mountain at Killington Resort’s Roaring Brook Umbrella Bars. Guests will have the opportunity to move through the different venues, enjoying a seemingly endless variety of wines produced domestically and from places as far away as France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Germany, New Zealand, Japan, Chile, Argentina, and South Africa. The Grand Tasting will also feature Vermont wines and spirits as well as local artisanal foods including cheeses, chocolates and more. Admission to the event includes tastings, winefriendly fare, a round-trip scenic gondola ride, and signature tote with wine glass.
On Saturday evening several of Killington’s most discerning restaurants will hold special culinary events ranging from wine samplings to multi-course gourmet wine dinners. Special guests from the wineries represented throughout the Festival weekend accompany many of these dinners and offer interactive discussions on a variety of wine topics. Space is limited at these events and early reservations are encouraged. The three-day event concludes with the Wine and Nine Golf Scramble at Green Mountain National Golf Course. Always a sell-out event, the Wine and Nine offers golfers of all abilities a chance to play a lighthearted round of golf on Vermont’s No. 1 Public Golf Course.
