WINDSOR – A Celebration of Life service will be held at Groveville United Methodist Church in Groveville, NJ at a later date, for Blanche B. Fisher, 86, a long-time resident of Groveville, NJ, who entered eternal life with our Lord and Savior on Monday, August 18 while residing at Cedar Hill Continuing Care Center (in Windsor, VT). Inurnment will follow in the Groveville Cemetery.
Blanche was born March 13, 1928 in Trenton, New Jersey, and was the third (and last daughter) of six children born to Furman Sr. and Lillian (Quick) Stoop.
Blanche met Wendell Fisher from Groveville, NJ, while both were employed by Westinghouse Corporation. They were married on March 6, 1949 and made their lasting home in Groveville in the very house in which Wendell was born. Blanche took much pride in raising their four children and ensuring Wendell always had a comfortable house to come home to, after his 24-hour shifts as a firefighter (and after he was recalled by the Navy for his LST services during the Korean War). Although Blanche’s primary focus was always on her home and raising their children, there were many additional interests that were sparked throughout the fifty-five years they were married. Blanche was introduced to the love of flying as a passenger in their J3-Cub and Stinson. Many trips were made to “fly-ins” over the years as members of the New Jersey Taildraggers Association and the Potomac Aero Squadron Flying Club, where they acquired a new family of long-time friends. Raising their four children included support of school, baseball and scouting programs; and their home was always open to anyone, young and old, who cared to stop by. Blanche enjoyed quilting for many years but she especially loved being outdoors at all times of the year, whether it be relaxing down at the shore or at a neighbor’s pool; ice skating or sledding, especially with her children and grandchildren; or just taking extended daily walks around Groveville. Blanche also took pride in her membership at Groveville United Methodist Church and continuously supported the Church through its many fund-raising activities, committees, and prayer meetings. Blanche became a member of a square-dance club, which again allowed her to enjoy the company of friends. After Wendell’s death, Blanche was introduced into a new hobby of beekeeping by a long-time family friend. She met this new challenge with a spirit of adventure and acquired a new-found knowledge in the art of beekeeping.
Blanche will always be remembered for her devotion and giving of herself to others, especially the closeness she felt with her grandchildren. Her family and many friends will miss her greatly, but are thankful for her full and active life of which they were a part.
Blanche was blessed with four children who all survive her: Sons Chuck (JoAnn) Fisher of Pemberton, NJ; and Tom (Sandi) Fisher of Rapid City, SD; and daughters June Fisher of Wurtsboro, NY; and Wendy (John) Hiers of Bridgewater Corners, VT. Those surviving also include eight grandchildren: Chuck Fisher, Jr., Broadnax, VA; Kia Fisher, Craig, CO; Tammi (Dave) Bradford, Roy, UT; Shawn (Erin) Morgenstern, Alamogordo, NM; Katie and Jackie Fisher, both of Wurtsboro, NY; and Seth and Taylor Hiers, both of Bridgewater Corners, VT; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Furman Jr. (Mickie) Stoop of West Trenton, NJ; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Marion and June, and brothers Richard and Arthur.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Blanche’s name to Groveville United Methodist Church (447 Church Street, Groveville, NJ 08620) have been established.
Family and friends may sign Blanche’s online guestbook at www.cabotfh.com (Cabot Funeral Home, Woodstock, VT)
