Season Record: 7-6-1
The taste of revenge is sweet, and that is what the Woodstock field hockey team tasted Friday afternoon after it downed Otter Valley 2-1 in the season opener on the Otters’ turf. The home team was Woodstock’s nemesis last year — eking out 3 one-goal victories over the Wasps.
When the horn sounded to signal the end of the first half, and with the scoreboard reading 0-0, it looked like the Woodstock field hockey team would play toe-to-toe with a veteran Bellows Falls team that went 12-1 last year. But missed opportunities and fatigue on a very hot day took its toll in the second half, as the Terriers chipped away at the sagging home team’s defense to walk away with a 3-0 win. All of the Terriers goals started from their 12 corner shots.
The Woodstock field hockey team jumped into a 3-0 first-period lead and never looked back as they cruised to a 4-1 win at Fair Haven last Wednesday. In the process they turned the corner on their lack of quality shots — a getting they were plagued with last year and in their two previous outings this season — out shooting the Slater’s 30-3, and raising their record to 2-1.
