KILLINGTON — There are no calling hours, however, there will be an informal memorial service on Aug. 16 at Rye Beach, New Hampshire for Richard Wayne Oates of Alpine Drive, who died at his home. Everyone should arrive before 1 p.m. at Ray’s Seafood Restaurant in Rye and proceed to the beach to distribute his ashes.
He was born July 26, 1948, in Rochester, New Hampshire.
Mr. Oates graduated from Dover High School in 1967, and New Hampshire College in 1971 and earned a master’s degree from Dartmouth College.
He had been employed by the Vermont Department of Education for many years and most recently as a group drug counselor in the Southeast Massachusetts area.
He is survived by his daughters, Kaitlin and Emily of Hillsborough, New Jersey; and by brothers W. Timothy Oates of Pisgah Forest, North Carolina and William McCann of Wilmington, Massachusetts.
He was predeceased by his parents, Albert E. Oates and Mary E. (Jameson) Oates; and brothers Albert (Skip) Oates, Donald McCann and Paul McCann.
