IRASBURG — A funeral Mass was held March 6, at St. Theresa Church, Orleans for Adrien Donat Houle, 95, who died on Feb. 28 after months of failing health. Burial will take place at a later date at St. John Vianney’s Cemetery in Irasburg.
He was born on Dec. 21, 1921, in Irasburg, son of Ernest and Doria Houle in the farmhouse that he lived most of his life.
On Oct. 11, 1947, he married the love of his life, Laurette M. Paquette at St. Theresa’s Church in Orleans.
Adrien and his wife ran the family dairy farm and produced maple syrup in Irasburg until they sold both operations to their son, Ronald and his spouse, Colette in 1994. One of his loves was using draft horses to gather the sap in the maple orchard.
Prior to buying the dairy farm from his father, Adrien logged in the woods of northern New Hampshire for a couple of years. After that he ran a milk can hauling route in Orleans County while also working on the family farm.
He enjoyed being outside, especially in the fall when he would hunt deer. For many years he belonged to a bowling league. Playing cards with friends and family was a passion of his. Adrien had a love of numbers and was one of the Town of Irasburg’s auditors for many, many years. Adrien attended St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Irasburg and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his children: Elaine Baxter and her spouse, Thomas of Geneva, Illinois; Diane Yunggebauer and her spouse, Fred of Hartland; Lorraine Brasseur and her spouse, Bernard of Cornish, New Hampshire; Ronald and his spouse, Colette (Gaboriault) Houle of Irasburg; and Denis and his spouse, Laura (Boomer) Houle of Irasburg. He is also survived by two of his seven siblings: Claire (Houle) Roy of Spencer, Mass., and Donat Houle and his spouse, Gisele of Orleans, Vt.; as well as several sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years Laurette in 2015; his eldest son, Rev. Wilfred Andre Houle in 2013; two of his brothers, Wilfrid and Roger; and two of his sisters, Cecile (Houle) Robinson and Theresa (Houle) Poirier Johnson.
