Broadway Hits the Ice at Union Arena Saturday

Haven’t seen Hamilton on Broadway? Don’t despair: Come to Woodstock’s version of Broadway – a night on ice, with figure skaters performing to Broadway show tunes from Hamilton, Lion King and more.

It’s free, and there’s even a chance to win, among other wonderful raffle items, dinner for two at Twin Farms – the luxury, five-star resort in Barnard. Top that, New York City!

This Saturday, March 11, at 5:30 p.m., figure skaters from the Union Arena Skating Club (UASC) take to ice for their 13th annual Figure Skating Ice Show entitled “Broadway Musicals on Ice.” Local skaters will be performing in solo and group skating routines to a variety of Broadway musical songs.

Any Les Miserables fans in the crowd? Megan LaCroix, an 8th grader at Woodstock Union Middle School who’s been taking group and private lessons with the skating club for 8 years, will be performing a solo routine to “Dreamed a Dream” and “Let him Live.” The basic skills skaters will be performing group numbers to music from Lion King and Annie.

The freestyle skaters will be performing a group number to music from Hamilton, choreographed by coach Sarah Jo Damron-Brown – well known in the international figure skating community for her achievements as a Medalist in the US Figure Skating Championship in 2000 (a competition from which the US Olympic Team members are chosen), and as a member of the prestigious, by-invitation-only, U.S. Figure Skating International Team.

This year’s show features four new soloists: first grader Sarea Beardsley, second grader Lily Stover, and third graders Annesonia Beardsley and Michelle Klepp. And returning veterans including Bronwyn Morris, a 7th grader at WUMSHS, skating to Nat King Cole’s “Nature Boy” from Moulin Rouge, and Erica Kurash, a 9th grader at WUMSHS skating in her 13th ice show with the club.

Woodstock has many terrific, unique, live, local performances, and this annual skating show is one of them. As David Letterman used to say: “Wake the kids! Call the neighbors!” and bring your friends and family to the Union Arena Skating Club’s 13th annual figure skating show entitled “Broadway Musicals on Ice”: Saturday, March 11, 5:30 p.m., at the Union Arena Rink in Woodstock, Vermont (80 Amsden Way, Woodstock, VT, 457-2500.
