Rescuers Dislodge Lone Kayak

The Woodstock Fire/EMS Department and the Bridgewater Fire Department responded to a report of a kayak that had overturned in the Ottauquechee River in West Bridgewater on Thursday morning. Rescue apparatus and personnel were able to safely reach the overturned kayak while dressed in water rescue personal protective equipment. The kayak was dislodged from under the tree, where it had been pinned, using chainsaws with the close supervision of the Safety Officer and EMT’s staging on scene. Fortunately, there was no one inside of the kayak when it had overturned and there were no injuries reported.

  1. Good job! It must have been quite an ordeal for whoever was inside. Presumably they were able to safely swim to shore.
