WEST WINDSOR- The Memorial Service for Loretta B. “Lori” Smith, 88, a longtime resident of West Windsor, who passed away December 22, 2016 at her home in West Windsor, will be held May 20 at 1:00 PM at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Windsor. The Rev. Donna Reidt will officiate. Committal services will be held at the convenience of her family in the Nassau Knolls Cemetery in Port Washington, NY.
She was born November 12, 1928 in Port Washington, NY the daughter of James H. and Julia A. (Faulhaber) Brower. Loretta was employed by the Port Washington School District in the late 1940’s, and later for the Port Washington Police Department from 1956 until 1961. She them worked for the Port Washington Library from 1969 until 1972. She and her husband then moved to West Windsor, where Loretta served as the assistant Town Clerk in the mid 1990‘s. She most recently worked as a bookkeeper for her husband’s property management company.
She was also an active member of the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Windsor where she served on the altar guild for several years.
Lori had a great fondness for animals and birds, and was a longtime supporter of the ASPCA and the Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society in West Windsor. Over the decades she proudly cared for at least a dozen different dogs and cats, as well as rabbits, chickens, ducks, geese and at least one pig and one calf.
Mrs. Smith had a true interest in family genealogy; gardening and long late afternoon dog walks into the large fields and wooded tracts behind her home.
Mr. Smith passed away in 2012. Her daughter, Kathie Lawrence of Woodstock passed on March 7, 2017.
Survivors include her stepson, Robert B. Smith, Jr., and his wife Pam, and two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Sarah Smith, all of Kinnelon, NJ.
