Olivia Marsicovetere netted her first two goals of the season Tuesday afternoon to lead the Wasps past Oxbow 2-0 – upping their season record to 2-2.
The win over the Olympians followed a 3-0 defeat of the Cosmos at Springfield on Saturday after suffering a 0-3 loss Wednesday afternoon to Division II leader Mill River in their home opener. Coach Greg LaBella predicted that this year’s team would be a work in progress, that would improve day-by-day. So far, coaches’ predictions have been true to form.
Marsicovetere scored the game winner with 1:38 left in the first half, and potted the insurance
goal with 13 minutes left on the clock.
The Olympians fielded a shorthanded roster of only 11 players and could not mount any offensive punch – leaving Woodstock goalkeeper Brittany Poljacik relatively untested. She had to make only three saves, including a late point-blank save to preserve the shutout.
The Wasps were on the road again on Saturday, traveling to Burr & Burton for a 5:30 p.m. game against the Division I Bulldogs.
